พระปรางค์ในวัดอรุณ เดิมสร้างสูง 16 เมตร พระบาทสมเด็จพระพุทธเลิศหล้านภาลัย ทรงมีพระราชปรารภสร้างพระปรางค์ในวัดอรุณให้สูงขึ้นอีก แต่เสด็จสวรรคตเสียก่อน พระบาทสมเด็จพระนั่งเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว โปรดฯ ให้ดำเนินการสร้างพระปรางค์ต่อ แต่ไม่ทันจัดงานฉลองก็สิ้นรัชกาลเสียก่อน
Phra Prang was originally built 16 meters high, King Rama 2 wanna to built Phra Prang in Wat Arun to higher but him died before to build Phra Prang. Later, King Rama 3 has to proceed to build the Phra Prang but still not celebration. He died before to celebrate the finished Phra Prang.
ต่อมา พ.ศ. 2452 พระบาทสมเด็จพระจุลจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว รัชกาลที่ 5 โปรดฯ ให้บูรณะปฏิสังขรณ์พระปรางค์ ถมลานให้สูงขึ้นและทำรั้วเหล็ก โปรดฯ ให้จัดงานฉลอง และ ทรงสถาปนาวัดอรุณราชวราราม ขึ้นเป็นพระอารามหลวงชั้นเอกอันดับหนึ่ง ปัจจุบันพระปรางค์สูง 81.85 เมตร วัดรอบฐาน 234 เมตร ประกอบด้วยปรางค์เล็กล้อมอยู่ 4 ทิศ และมีพระมณฑปอยู่ทั้ง 4 ทิศ
