หาดเจ้าสำราญได้รับความนิยมมากสุดในสมัยพระบาทสมเด็จพระมงกุฎเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว รัชกาลที่ 6 ซึ่งเป็นหาดที่มีชื่อเสียงมากกว่าหาดอื่นๆในสมัยนั้น โดยโปรดเกล้าให้สร้างค่ายหลวงขึ้นเรียกว่า "ค่ายหลวงบางทะลุ" ตำบลบางทะลุ มีพระตำหนักบริเวณริมหาดแห่งนี้เรียกว่า “พระตำหนักหาดเจ้าสำราญ” ทรงได้เปลี่ยนชื่อเป็น ตำบลหาดเจ้าสำราญ ต่อมาทรงได้ย้ายพระตำหนักไปยังจุดที่เป็น พระราชนิเวศน์มฤคทายวัน ในปัจจุบันเพราะหาดเจ้าสำราญมีแมลงวันชุมเนื่องจากพระตำหนักแห่งนี้ตั้งอยู่ใกล้หมู่บ้านชาวประมงทำให้พระตำหนักแห่งนี้มีแมลงวันชุมจนพระองค์แอบได้ยินข้าราชบริพารในพระองค์ บ่นว่า "หาดเจ้าสำราญแต่ข้าราชบริพารเบื่อ" และหาดแห่งนี้ขาดแคลนน้ำจืดจึงโปรดให้ย้ายไปในที่สุด
